“What to do on a Friday with a $5 Bill” Movie Premiere – Tuesday, March 2nd

February 16, 2010

What to do on a Tuesday with a $5 Bill? Come see Daniel Cardinal’s latest thriller and support local indie filmmaking! Starring: Cathy Symonds, Landon Hicks & Anna-Alexandra Sharrett.

This event will be held at Club Saw, Tuesday March 2 at 7:00pm. For more information check out the “What to do on a Friday with a $5 Bill”Facebook event page.

Two short comedies will also be screened this night: “The Competitive Edge” and “The Before Guy,” which happens to not only mark my film acting debut (I believe in 2004? Daniel will have to clarify), but also happens to be the one-and-only-would-love-to-do-it-again time that I was lucky enough to share a screen with Derick Fage, who currently co-hosts daytime Ottawa and Jamie Douglas of Powergoats. Oh, the memories…

Magic of Diego – March 11th @ 10:30pm – Yuk Yuk’s Ottawa

February 16, 2010

March 11th at 10:30pm,  Magic of Diego will take the stage at Yuk Yuk’s on Elgin St for a one night only, hilarious hypnosis show that will leave the audience wanting more.  We’ve seen Diego work his magic on the stage before, but never quite like this. Audience participation: Mandatory! A highly recommended show for anyone who is looking for some great entertainment and a lot of laughs!

We also head a rumour that Ed Gougeon will be taking the stage that night. Two headliner-worthy shows in one night… is this possible?  Tickets are $10 each and are available in advance or at the door.

Matt Dusk Interview

November 28, 2009

Canada’s own Matt Dusk is not only an extremely talented musician but he is one of the nicest and most down to earth people I’ve had the opportunity to meet. Whether you’ve been a fan since his days at the Golden Nugget on Fox’s The Casino or one of his newer fans who have become instantly hooked after hearing his incredible voice on the radio, you don’t want to miss out on the opportunity to see him perform live.

Although I admire performers who can dance around the stage for 3 hours without breaking a sweat, I’ve never been much of a fan for the lip sync and have always been a bit of a sucker for real live music, the kind where the band plays, the singer sings and the audience and performers feed off each others’ energy and connect in a  special way that can only be felt at that very moment. Put me in front of a live band and I’m a happy camper. Put me in front of a band that plays hard and exudes passion and I will contently sit there all day. But, sitting in front of a stage with Matt Dusk and his band is where I would happily camp for a week. He has a voice, look and talent that will catch you but add his level of ease, confidence and ability to engage an audience’s attention to the list and he will have you hooked. He is genuine, friendly and attentive, and he always makes time for his fans, something which not a lot of performers take the time to do.  With 13 shows in 20 days and running out of CDs along the way because they are so high in demand, he is just as busy, if not busier, but always makes time to connect with fans. He is in no need of extra “hoopla” or fancy bells and whistles. His passion and love for music and his audience is apparent from the moment he steps on stage.

If you weren’t one of the luckier ones who had the opportunity to catch him live at one of his stops in November, keep an eye out for him in the new year because with a new album recently released and chart-topping songs in his pocket, his is definitely one show you don’t want to miss.

If you’re feeling in the holiday spirit or even if you aren’t quite there yet, pick up a copy of his “Peace on Earth” album which is sure to get you in the holiday mood.

Visit www.MattDusk.com for more information on his music and upcoming tour dates.

ACTRA: Why Canadian TV Drama?

November 6, 2009

The fight for Our TV
Watch the video and see why we need to win

ACTRA’s decade-long fight to get more Canadian drama back in prime time is in the final round. Our federal regulator – the CRTC – is holding big hearings on November 16 where they will re-write the rules for Canadian TV. We’re not exaggerating when we say that this is the fight of our lives, or more specifically – our careers and our culture.

TV is still the most popular cultural medium so when our private broadcasters spend 13 times more on U.S. programming than they do on our own dramas and comedies, we’ve got a problem.

This fall we have a chance to make sure that broadcasters are told to give back to the system, to give us back our voice in prime time.

Watch this video and let some of your fellow performers tell you why they care.
